Peer Recovery & Outreach
Parent Support Network represents young adults, individuals, and parents/family members who are in recovery from opioid addiction, substance use, and/or mental health challenges. We are committed to building a strong statewide workforce of Dual Certified Peer Recovery Specialists and Community Health Workers who serve as advocates and provide peer based recovery support services. Community Centers:
PSN contracts with the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals to build and operate the Hope Recovery Community Centers of Newport County and Washington County. The centers provide individual peer recovery services by phone and in person in the center or community to support steps towards recovery and wellness; daily virtual and in person mutual aid meetings and support groups; ongoing public awareness events and training opportunities such as life skills, women's care, naloxone, etc. We prioritize collaboration and partnership with community partners and we work to link and coordinate individuals to the treatment, programs, and community resources needed. Community Outreach Response Efforts Statewide Outreach:
The Hope Recovery C.O.R.E. (Community Outreach Response Efforts) Team is a mobile outreach program that operates statewide through Rhode Island, meeting individuals “where they are at.” This team is funded by the Rhode Island Department of Health
The CORE Team employs dually certified Peer Recovery Specialists/Community Health Workers that provide direct recovery and harm reduction supports to at-risk individuals within the community.
When a region within Rhode Island is experiencing higher than normal opioid overdose rates, the CORE Team deploys outreach workers to target the effected region and provides recovery and harm reduction support (such as Naloxone Distribution) to at-risk individuals as well as community organizations in the area. The CORE Team helps educate the community on overdose awareness and prevention through naloxone (Narcan) trainings and Substance Use Disorder education.
The CORE Team provides support and referrals to inpatient treatment, medication assisted treatment, recovery housing, self-help-based support, Peer Recovery Support, HIV/HCV testing, and basic needs assistance.

Workforce Development:
PSN is a Federal Registered Apprenticeship program for Dual Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and Community Health Workers. We offer ongoing training, internship and apprenticeship opportunities. More details here.
